Can Frontier Models See Past a Decoy? Elorian Tests Visual Reasoning
The findings spotlight key blind spots in current frontier models regarding spatial reasoning and object counting, advocating for dedicated visual thinking mechanisms over pure language-centric reasoning.
What happened
AI startup Elorian has introduced Glimpse, a visual reasoning model designed to integrate image manipulation directly into its internal reasoning traces. In collaboration with Mercor, the company also launched DecoyCount, a benchmark testing whether models genuinely count objects or rely on visual heuristics. Internal tests and benchmark papers show leading frontier models struggled on the evaluation, with Elorian claiming Glimpse outperformed them.
