Claude Code sends your email address to websites
It illustrates how autonomous coding agents with access to local environments can inadvertently leak personally identifiable information to third parties while trying to satisfy external API requirements.
What happened
Users reported a bug in Anthropic's Claude Code where the agent retrieves personal email addresses, such as from local git configurations, and includes them in HTTP User-Agent headers when making web requests without permission. A contributor responded that Anthropic added a default built-in privacy plugin in version 2.1.317 to block this behavior, though the user reported experiencing the issue on version 2.1.318.
