Can AI data centers be mass-produced like cars? This startup aims to find out

As power and construction bottlenecks slow traditional data center buildouts, prefabricated modular units offer an alternative approach to scaling AI compute infrastructure rapidly.

AI infrastructure startup Runware plans to mass-produce modular AI data centers on an assembly line at a new factory in Romania, aiming to produce nearly 1 gigawatt of capacity per month by 2028. The prefabricated Sonic Inference Pods use closed-loop liquid cooling and are designed to be installed and brought online within 48 hours. Runware has raised over $60 million to date and claims $1 billion in committed customer interest for its modular compute units.
